Modelled on the training and fitness regime of a professional BJJ athlete, Locals Jiu Jitsu fuses Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and self-defence with popular group functional fitness under the guidance of Bruno’s elite coaching methodology. With classes catering for all ages and fitness levels, students learn the world’s most effective martial art while enjoying a full-body workout in a supportive team environment.
WHO WE ARE?
Founded by John Walton, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and lifelong martial artist, Locals Maroubra was born from a deep passion for excellence on and off the mats. John has spent decades immersed in the world of Jiu-Jitsu—training, teaching, and competing. His vision was clear: to build a place where community, discipline, and world-class Jiu-Jitsu come together.
From humble beginnings, John has grown Locals into one of Australia’s most respected martial arts academies. Locals Maroubra is now a thriving hub for all levels—from kids just starting out to athletes chasing championships. With a focus on technique, culture, and consistency, Locals has become more than a gym—it’s a second home for many, and the foundation for future champions.
